Bee Kind on Giving Tuesday

The holidays are upon us. We just finished Thanksgiving, then Black Friday, and are in the middle of Cyber Monday. But, are you ready for Giving Tuesday? Most of us have heard about #GivingTuesday on social media, but many don’t know how it began or how exactly to take part.

This global generosity movement started in 2012 inside the 92nd Street Y in New York City. It has grown to reach millions of people in more than 80 countries, according to the (aptly named) nonprofit organization GivingTuesday. It always occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the idea is just to give - “whether it’s some of your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in your local community.”

We at The Storyhive are not afraid to use our Houston video production muscles to give back to our community throughout the year. We wanted to highlight some great organizations for you to consider donating time or resources to on this 10th year of #givingtuesday.

First, a quick shout out to the East End Chamber of Commerce, who does amazing work supporting small businesses like ours. We are long-time East-Enders here, and will be creating an event video about their awards ceremony on Dec. 2. Consider donating a silent auction item or becoming a sponsor. Houston Habitat for Humanity

Grab a hammer to help build a better Houston. This is one of our favorite clients, not because their videos are always fun, but because of their mission. They not only build houses, they help their clients create homes and communities. Volunteer with us the next time around by emailing team@thestoryhive.com or donate to the cause directly on their website.

Buffalo Bayou Partnership

Houston traces its origin to Buffalo Bayou. Buffalo Bayou Partnership has done an amazing job revitalizing the waterway. We’re ecstatic about the organization’s recently-announced plans to transform the area around the bayou in our neck of the woods, the East End. We cannot wait to walk, bike and kayak along its banks and less than one mile from our studio. Check out all the ways you can support their critical work: https://buffalobayou.org/support/

We supported the Partnership’s efforts by cleaning up Buffalo Bayou Park on Earth Day and creating a video about an installation at Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern.

RaiseUp Families

When families go through hardships, they can feel alone and lost. RaiseUp Families provides not only hope but great opportunities for each family to jump back on a good track with financial help, education and support groups. Their nine-month-long HandUp Program gives individuals consistent guidance to graduate with a brighter future.

Meeting the RaiseUp Families team during the first week of the pandemic gave us inspiration that we could help make a difference in the lives of our fellow Houstonians. Learn about all the ways you can give to their cause here: https://raiseupfamilies.org/give/
